Getting There
Our wedding is in Oaxaca de Juárez, in southern Mexico. Guests will be coming from Scandinavia, Mexico City, and other parts of Mexico — here’s how to get here from wherever you are.
Flying from Scandinavia / Europe
There are no direct flights from Scandinavia to Oaxaca. The best route is to fly to Mexico City (MEX) and then take a connecting flight or bus to Oaxaca.
- Copenhagen (CPH) → Mexico City (MEX): Several airlines offer connections (Lufthansa via Frankfurt, KLM via Amsterdam, Iberia via Madrid, or Air France via Paris). Flight time is approximately 14–17 hours including layover.
- Stockholm (ARN) → Mexico City (MEX): Similar routing via European hubs.
- Oslo (OSL) → Mexico City (MEX): Similar routing via European hubs.
Tip: Book early for the best fares. Consider arriving a few days early to enjoy Mexico City before heading to Oaxaca!
Mexico City (MEX) → Oaxaca (OAX)
- By Air: Aeroméxico and Volaris offer direct flights from Mexico City (MEX) to Oaxaca (OAX). Flight time is approximately 1 hour. Flights are frequent and affordable.
- By Bus: ADO and OCC operate comfortable first-class buses from Mexico City’s TAPO terminal to Oaxaca. The journey takes approximately 6–7 hours and is very scenic. A great option if you want to see the countryside.
Flying from Mexico City
If you’re already in Mexico City, simply take a short domestic flight to Xoxocotlán International Airport (OAX), which is about 7 km from the center of Oaxaca.
From the Airport in Oaxaca
Xoxocotlán International Airport (OAX)
Distance to City Center: ~7 km
Travel Time: Approximately 20 minutes by car
- Airport Taxis: Official airport taxis are available outside the terminal. Purchase a ticket at the booth inside the terminal before exiting (~150–200 MXN to the city center).
- Uber/DiDi: Available and generally cheaper than taxis.
- Rental Cars: Available from major companies at the airport (Hertz, Europcar, etc.), though driving in Oaxaca’s center is not recommended — it’s very walkable.

Important Information
Currency & Payments
Currency: Mexican Peso (MXN)
ATMs: Widely available in Oaxaca and Mexico City. Use ATMs inside banks for safety.
Credit Cards: Accepted at most restaurants and hotels, but carry cash for markets and smaller vendors.
Tip: Avoid currency exchange booths at the airport — ATM withdrawal usually gives a better rate.

Spanish is the primary language. In tourist areas of Oaxaca and Mexico City, some English is spoken, but learning a few basic phrases in Spanish goes a long way and is very appreciated!
Safety Tips
- Oaxaca is generally very safe for tourists, especially in the Centro Histórico.
- Use official taxis or ride-hailing apps (Uber, DiDi) rather than hailing taxis on the street.
- Keep valuables secure and be aware of your surroundings, as in any city.
- Drink bottled water.
